Reviving Tradition, Preserving Heritage.

Welcome to The Village Gate Project website, where tradition and community meet. Discover how we are crafting a unique wooden gate in the heart of the village, designed to showcase an ethnographic and touristic map of our region.

Preserving Györgyfalva's Folk Heritage

Falu Kútja Egyesület is a non-profit, non-governmental association based in Györgyfalva, Transylvania, Romania.

The association's primary objective is to preserve, nurture, and pass on the traditional folk culture of Györgyfalva, encompassing both its intellectual and material aspects. It seeks to harness these cultural resources for the benefit of the local community and to aid the development of village tourism. Falu Kútja Egyesület achieves its mission primarily through organizing diverse cultural programs and by publishing archival text, video, and audio materials related to Györgyfalva's past, aiming to stimulate public interest in the village's ethnographic and folkloric heritage. Activities such as folk song collection competitions further support these goals

Preserving wooden carved heritage.

The goal of the Falu Kútja Association is to create and install a traditional, richly carved Györgyfalva gate at the village's legendary central well. This project responds to the social changes taking place in Györgyfalva, as a result of which the village's rich symbolism, patterns, and traditional decorative elements—especially carved architectural features—are gradually disappearing from its landscape. The material, construction, and decoration of the gate will fully reflect traditional historical techniques. The gate will incorporate an informational panel containing a map of the village and its surroundings, historical and ethnographic context, as well as the legend of Shepherd György. Placement of the gate at the final stop of the bus arriving from Cluj-Napoca will ensure maximum visibility for all visiting tourists and vehicle traffic. The project's realization requires the professional collaboration of a carpenter and an ethnographer, while content editing will be the responsibility of the association's project leader, with input from a graphic designer, ethnographer, and the local community through public consultation.
